TATTOO GUIDE · PUNE

Can I get a tattoo if I have a skin condition?

Sometimes. It depends on the condition, where it is and how your skin behaves. If you have an active or significant skin condition, getting medical advice before tattooing is the sensible move.

WHY YOUR SKIN MATTERS

Why your skin matters

Tattooing involves putting pigment into the skin. If the skin in or around the intended area is irritated, inflamed or affected by a condition, tattooing may not be appropriate at that time.

A tattoo artist can discuss the tattoo with you, but we are not a substitute for a dermatologist.

WHEN TO SPEAK TO A DERMATOLOGIST

When to speak to a dermatologist

If you have a diagnosed skin condition, a history of strong skin reactions or a concern about how your skin heals, ask your dermatologist before booking.

This is especially important if the skin you want tattooed is currently affected by a flare, rash, infection or unexplained change.

TELL YOUR ARTIST

Tell your artist

You do not need to feel embarrassed about your skin. Tell us about anything relevant before the session so we can make a sensible decision about the tattoo.

If we think you should get medical advice first, that is not us trying to make the process difficult. It is us trying not to tattoo skin that shouldn't be tattooed that day.

WHEN TO WAIT

When to wait

Sometimes the right answer is simply 'not yet'. If the skin needs time to settle or heal, waiting is better than forcing a tattoo appointment into the calendar.

A tattoo can wait. Your skin is more important.

ONE MORE QUESTION?

Still unsure?

That's exactly what a conversation with the artist is for.

Can tattoos cause a skin reaction?

Yes. Skin reactions to tattoo ink can happen, sometimes immediately and sometimes later. If you have concerns about allergies or a skin condition, discuss them with a dermatologist before tattooing.
