TATTOO GUIDE · PUNE

Does getting a tattoo hurt?

A little, yes. But “how much?” is a much better question — and there isn't one answer. Tattoo pain varies a lot between people and between body parts.

WHAT DOES TATTOO PAIN FEEL LIKE?

What does tattoo pain feel like?

People describe tattooing in different ways: scratching, vibration, heat or a sharp repetitive sensation. It is usually more useful to think of it as an uncomfortable sensation rather than one constant level of pain.

Your body also gets used to the sensation as a session goes on. Some areas feel surprisingly easy while others can be much more sensitive.

PLACEMENT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Placement makes a difference

Areas with more bone, thinner skin or greater sensitivity can feel more intense. Areas with more cushioning tend to be easier for many people.

That doesn't mean a particular placement will definitely hurt more for you. Everyone has a different pain threshold, and the same tattoo can feel very different to two people.

SIZE AND SESSION TIME MATTER

Size and session time matter

A tiny tattoo and a long, detailed piece are very different experiences. Longer sessions can become tiring even when the pain itself is manageable.

If you're new to tattoos, tell the artist. We can talk about the size, placement and session length before you commit.

HOW TO MAKE THE EXPERIENCE EASIER

How to make the experience easier

Come fed and hydrated, wear something that gives the artist easy access to the area and get a decent night's sleep. Don't arrive expecting to prove how tough you are.

If you need a break during the tattoo, say so. You are allowed to be comfortable.

ONE MORE QUESTION?

Still unsure?

That's exactly what a conversation with the artist is for.

What if I'm nervous about the pain?

Tell us. We can talk through the placement and expected session length before you book, so you know what you're getting into.
